Element Beyond Gravity
Element Beyond Gravity� is a new opera based on Italo Calvinos architectural prose Invisible Cities and led by Curious Planet. The scheme builds a canonic and theatrical narrative in response to two Calvino cities - Thekla and Octavia, whose communities have collective dreams of weightlessness, untrammelled and vast, but whose reality is arduous and full of perilous struggle towards that perfect altitude where they will find release from the burden of gravity.
Using operatic device and physical theatre practice, the related community workshops will engage participants in a series of creative inquiries into weightlessness, release and trajectory. The project is stage 2 of a 3-stage operatic response to the 2012 Games and considers the relationships between sport and elemental force.
